$1 million in capital investments dedicated to purchasing and installing new guns

Newry, Maine (2012/2013)—Sunday River will allocate $1 million of its $2.7 million capital enhancement budget to the purchase of 300 new HKD SV10 Impulse guns—a project made possible by the support of its parent company, Boyne Resorts, and a $300k grant by Efficiency Maine.

Known for having the most technically advanced snowmaking system in the East, Sunday River’s new snowguns will cover 15 of the resort’s most popular trails, including Moonstruck, Ecstasy, Monday Mourning, Lazy River, and Grand Rapids.

Sunday River is currently home to 132 trails, 1,900 snowguns, and boasts the ability to cover over 85 percent of its terrain with snowmaking.

Thanks to the SV10’s ability to use up to 90 percent less compressed air, Sunday River expects to be able open more terrain faster, which means better ski-in/ski-out access early in the winter for guests staying at the Grand Summit Resort Hotel and better snow coverage for events taking place on the resort’s dedicated race trail, Monday Mourning.

The purchase of these SV10s also allows the resort to move the snowguns currently located on these trails and designate them to terrain that has shared snowguns or have typically needed natural snowfall to open. These trails include Tempest, Road Runner, Polaris, Cyclone, Firestar, and Over Easy.

Sunday River will install these new snowguns in time for its opening day, which for the past five years has occurred either on or before Halloween, and two years ago allowed the resort to be the first in the country to open.
Part of the Sunday River’s long-term vision, this $1 million dollar investment moves the resort closer to its goal of doubling its water capacity and pump capability all while becoming more energy efficient in the next five years.
Since 2007, Sunday River has benefited from Boyne Resort’s support with over $30 million in capital enhancements including the purchase of Boyne Low Energy Fan Guns, New England’s only Chondola, and 12-Hour Skiing/Riding.
