Sunday River Celebrates 10th Annual Santa Sunday with Record-Breaking 500 Participants

Registration for annual event fills in less than an hour


Newry, Maine (December 4, 2009) – Located amidst the Western Mountains of Maine, Sunday River has long been synonymous with “The Most Dependable Snow in New England” and hosting signature events like Santa Sunday. Registration for this year’s annual event sold out in less than an hour even with Sunday River doubling its amount of holiday spirit by opening the event up to over 500 preregistered guests.

For the past 10 years, Santa Sunday has included 250 guests vying for a chance to participate by dressing in Santa attire to earn free lift tickets to ski and snowboard. To celebrate Sunday River’s 10th Annual Santa Sunday, the registration flood gates were opened to over 500 lucky skiers and riders who now have the chance to dress as skiing and riding Jolly Saint Nicks.

“It’s a fantastic event and one that has grown into a much beloved Sunday River tradition for so many of our guests,’ said Dana Bullen, General Manager for Sunday River. “The visual impact of watching that many Santas skiing and snowboarding illustrate that winter has truly arrived and puts everyone in the holiday spirit.”

Santa Sunday participants will check in between 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. in the South Ridge Base Lodge and then participate in the 11 a.m. photo shoot.  Santa Sunday participants will receive one lift ticket day of in addition to two lift tickets valid through December 18, 2009.

Rules for Santa Sunday include that participants must arrive at South Ridge Lodge wearing all of the following items: one red Santa hat including a white pompom, one red Santa jacket, one pair of red Santa pants, a Santa beard, and a $10 (or more) cash donation for the Bethel Rotary Club's Annual Drive to provide gifts for the area's in children in need.
