The Dumont Cup
The 5th annual Dumont Cup returns to Sunday River this spring as the only major freeskiing event in the East and the biggest pro-am competition in the world.
Ranked as a Platinim event by the Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP), the Dumont Cup draws pro skiers from around the globe to compete along side the best amateur skiers in North America. The pro round-up this season will include Simon, Jossi Wells, Colby West, Gus Kenworthy, PK Hunter, Joss Christiansen, Matt Walker, JF Houle, LJ Strenio, Alex Beaulieu-Marchard and more.
This year's slopestyle course will be built on the Sunday Punch and Rocking Chair trails on Barker Mountain once again for prime visibility and spectating, with Simon designing the course and features himself. Skiers will have access on the left side of Rocking Chair to access the jump line and announcer's stand, and spectators will be able to hike up the course from the finish area at the base of Barker Mountain.
With $20,000 in cash up for grabs you'll see top X-Games pros throwing down against an amateur field that always gives them a run for their money, and sometimes comes out on top - just ask Alex Schlopy and Nick Goepper, who launched their pro careers for Dumont Cup wins right here at Sunday River and are returning again this season.
Amateur qualifying rounds will be held in two sessions on Friday, March 29, with the top 40 amateurs advancing to the semi-finals on Saturday morning, March 30, to compete against the pros in the afternoon finals. The pros are here both days to meet and ski with the amateurs and take practice runs through the course. Spectators are welcome to hike up the course from Barker Lodge, and ski access for spectating will be available via the Overy Easy trail from Monday Mourning or Casdades.
