Saturday, April 6
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. ~ On Saturday you'll find the entire White Cap base area transformed into a giant beach with activities and entertainment all day long. Parrothead Festival begins bright and early as The Calypso Cowboys take to the stage. Based out of the Portland, Maine, area, The Calypso Cowboys are a seven-member tropical rock band featuring the music of Jimmy Buffett, Zac Brown Band, Kenny Chesney, Beach Boys, Classic Rock, Pop, and original beach-inspired tunes.
1:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. ~ The party continues with America's premier Jimmy Buffet tribute band, Changes In Latitude. Changes In Latitude recreates the Jimmy Buffett concert experience with amazing authenticity. Leader Steve Kareta mimics Jimmy's casual, storyteller-style, taking you on a laid back yet upbeat musical trip through the sun-drenched Caribbean.
4 p.m. - 6 p.m. ~ Calypso Hurricane will be making their debut appearance at Parrothead with their special blend of calypso, ska, mento, reggae, and original island grooves. This award-winning band is Boston's longest lasting island-groove jam band featuring classically trained musicians guaranteed to put a smile on your face and a spring in your dance step.
1 p.m. ~ Spam Carving Contest
Leave it to the Parrot Head Club of the Northern Tropics to come up with this idea, and what a wonderful idea it is! Test your processed meat-carving skills and create a sculpture out of two cans of SPAM. Anything goes (PG rated of course)! Registration will be at noon in the White Cap base area at the Parrothead Club's Tiki Hut. Participants will have 10 minutes to complete their sculpture. Ready? Set? Carve!!
3 p.m. ~ Margarita Mix-Off
Everyone's favorite drinking competition is back! Local establishments put their mixes to your taste test for the coveted title of People's Choice Award for the area's best margarita. Today's margarita is a many-sided drink, changing faces easily and lending itself to varied blends. For only $1 per sample, you will have the opportunity to taste seven very different versions of this amazing cocktail. Try them all and vote for your favorite! Restaurants in the competition this year are as follows:
~ The Sudbury Inn
~ Roosters Roadhouse
~ Mill Hill Inn
~ Funky Red Barn
~ Foggy Goggle
9 p.m. ~ Saturday night, the party is at the Matterhorn Ski Bar with
Last Kid Picked. Say good-bye to all your friends at the Matterhorn
during their last weekend open. Keep in mind though, we'll be skiing and riding on the mountain as long as we can!
Sunday, April 7
11 a.m. ~ Pond Skimming
An annual favorite! Skiers, snowboarders, and snowbladers alike put their skills to the test. From the outlandish costumes and spills to the antics of the judges, this event is loads of fun. How does it work? First, wear the most ridiculous outfit you can imagine. No matter what, resist all speed checks on the run-in. Don’t lean too far backward or forward; just try to feel for the sweet spot—which, of course, you won’t know until you hit the water. If you fall, try to spray the crowd as you go and definitely take
your skis off before you try to climb out of the water. Don't forget, costumes get scored much higher. Registration will begin 9 a.m. at the White Cap venue. We will take the first 100 people that register. Children under the age of 18 will need a parent or gaurdian present to sign a release form.
1 -3:30 p.m. ~ There's still more partying in paradise on Sunday! The party continues with live music from Changes In Latitude. An encore performance from Satuday, Changes In Latitude will bring the White Cap beach to life with their famous Buffett good-time party-at-the-beach feeling.
1 p.m. ~ Key Lime Pie Eating Contest
If all the BBQ and beverages aren't enough, then why not enter into the Key Lime Pie Eating Contest?! Who will be the first to finish their key lime pie to become this year's Sunday River Key Lime Pie Eating Champion? All pies are made and delivered fresh from Valley View Orchard, a family-owned business in Hebron, Maine. Registration starts at noon in the White Cap base area. It's free to enter...but beware, we may take your picture and post it on the web like this lucky guy!
