Bethel Historical Society

Founded in 1966, the Bethel Historical Society provides visitors with a doorway to the past from its Regional History Center in Bethel Hill Village. The Center's Broad Street properties—the 1821 O’Neil Robinson House and the 1813 Dr. Moses Mason House—are both listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Open year-round, the Regional History Center offers more than a dozen period rooms and exhibit galleries where visitors can discover the area's past. The Society's museum and library collections include a wide range of materials documenting the heritage of northern New England, with a major focus on western Maine and the White Mountain region of Maine and New Hampshire. Throughout the year, the Society provides lectures, courses, special exhibits, craft demonstrations, and educational activities for both members and the general public. |

Since 1936, Maine's Most Enchanting Summer Theatre! In 1936 a marvelous opera house was built on the site of an old deer run in the forest above the village of Harrison. Constructed of rose hemlock in the Adirondack Style with hand carved fixtures and near perfect acoustics, the 300 seat theatre was considered as fine as any on Broadway. Now listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, Deertrees is operated as a non-profit performing arts center and presents an eclectic offering of over fifty productions - from cutting edge standup comedy to Downeast humor, from Broadway Plays to New Orleans Jazz -during a season that runs from late June until early September. Nestled in the foothills of the White Mountains, the Stone Mountain Arts Center is a beautiful timber frame music hall hosting national acts up close and personal in an equally beautiful setting. This unique space is located just over the border from NH in Brownfield, Maine. Drive up a country road, with the mountains as your guide. When you reach the top there with it’s red clapboards, this special performance space towers over Noonan’s 200 year old farmhouse providing you with a dramatic audience experience you will not soon forget. Performances will be represented by many different genres... from folk, celtic, blues, cajun, opera, comedy, and classical.
