25th Annual Eat the Heat Chili Cookoff & Firefighters' Race

Hooray for the 25th Annual Eat the Heat Chili Cookoff & Firefighters' Race! For the first time ever, the events were held slopeside at South Ridge Lodge and included live music, a chili-dog eating contest, firefighters' race, and the famous chili cookoff.

Firefighters from all around New England teamed up for this fun event, which raised $2,100 for the Sunday River Community Fund. They raced a Giant Slalom course on Lower Broadway on South Ridge  in full turnout gear with a firehose, and the Jay Fire Department of Jay, Maine, are the reigning champs, with Bethel, Maine as the runner up, and Auburn, Maine taking third place.

Chili chefs from the Bethel, ME area also served up some of the best chili you ever tasted in competition for the "Best Chili" and "People's Choice" awards. This year's competitors were the Sudbury Inn, Roosters Roadhouse, Sunday River Brew Pub, Foggy Goggle, Camp, Sunday River Food Court, Cilantro, and the Phoenix. Samples were $1 each, cash only, and all proceeds benefited Sunday River Community Fund.

The Suds Pub took home both the "Best Chili" and "People's Choice" awards, with Rooster's Roadhouse coming in at runner up, and last year's winner, Cilantro, taking third.

The 25th Annual Eat the Heat Chili Cookoff and Firefighters Race is presented by Bud Light and The Bank of Maine.
