Let’s Meet in the Mountains
Conferences at Sunday River Resort combine business and pleasureApril 23, 2017
Newry, ME (Summer 2017)-As a destination ski and mountain bike resort, Sunday River knows that its conference guests work hard to play even harder. As such, the resort offers 450 guest rooms, over 30,000 square feet (22,000 ADA-approved) of function space, and the customer experience to make conferences and meetings an easy decision and memorable event. It doesn't hurt that the Sunday River Mountain Park and on-site L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Schools leaves little to be desired during meeting and seminar downtime.
Sunday River's two full-service hotels--the Jordan Hotel and the Grand Summit Hotel--have both received certification from the state of Maine Department of Environmental Protection for being environmental leaders in the hospitality sector and were recently awarded a Maine Office of Tourism Award for outstanding customer service.
Both hotels also offer full-service conference capabilities with a wide variety of conference rooms that range in size from the 6,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom to 18 smaller meeting rooms. All of the function space in both hotels are climate controlled, located on one floor, and are ADA compliant.
As for play, L.L.Bean's Outdoor Discovery Schools offers professional instruction in archery, standup paddle boarding, and kayaking. The Sunday River-based L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Schools--the only satellite Outdoor Discovery program not directly affiliated with an L.L.Bean retail establishment--operates out of the Grand Summit Hotel.
Conference participants can also use their free time to enjoy what Yankee magazine has touted as the "Best Mountain Playground," including nearly 20 miles of mountain biking, ample hiking terrain, zipline tours and twin zips, wildlife tours, and plenty of water activities in the area.
Also popular among conference guests is the Sunday River Chondola lift, which serves as uphill bike and pedestrian transport and provides sweeping views of the majestic Mahoosuc Mountain. The award-winning Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed golf course, the Sunday River Country Club, offers a chance for meeting goers to hit the links.
Dining options throughout the resort include banquet accommodations for large and small groups, full-service restaurants, and lounges in each hotel. The resort's recently revised banquet menu features Maine-inspired fare featuring regional ingredients perfect for casual affairs and more formal events. Additionally, the Camp restaurant is quintessential Maine comfort food at its finest with seating available for 300 people and full audio/visual capabilities.
