Mountain Biking at Sunday River Resort

The Sunday River Bike Park offers nearly 20 miles of summer fun

April 24, 2017

Press Release

NEWRY, MAINE (Summer 2017)--Downhill winter enthusiasts need not shed a tear when Sunday River Resort opens for the summer on Thursday, June 29-only layers. Thanks to the return of lift-serviced downhill mountain biking to Sunday River Resort, those seeking gravity fed fun will have plenty to do right up until the resort starts making snow again in October.

With nearly 20 miles of lift-serviced downhill mountain biking terrain, Sunday River's Bike Park is serviced by the resort's Chondola lift and best suited for intermediate and advanced riders.

New this summer, Flatten 'Em trail, one of the resort's most popular intermediate to advanced trails, was widened from 12 inches to 36 inches in most sections. Banks, berms, jumps, and rolls were also added for a smoother riding experience.

Riders can also expect to see the Bike Crew hard at work on the transition from Easy Tiger to Lower Rock Garden as the crew continues to smooth out and rebuild the jump take-offs on Ridge Run.

Those looking to improve their skills can enroll in a clinic with the Mountain Bike School. Clinics are 90 minutes and include a Specialized bike rental, a helmet, and instruction from a coach certified by the Professional Mountain Bike Instructor Association. The minimum age is 10 years old and riders must be comfortable on a bicycle prior to the clinic.

Adult clinics are $69 and junior clinics are $59, and those wanting to keep their equipment and lift ticket for the rest of the day can rent for $69 for adults and $59 for juniors.

Adult downhillers (ages 13 and up) can purchase a day ticket at Sunday River Sports for $35 or purchase a season pass for $269. Ages 12 and under can ride for $20 per day or $139 for the season. Those looking to ride the trails without using the Chondola lift pay $10 per day while 2017/18 winter season passholders can save 50 percent off when purchasing a Bike Park season pass.

Rentals from our fleet of Specialized bikes cost $80, and helmet rentals are available for $10.

The Sunday River Bike Park operates daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning June 29 through July 4, then Thursday through Sunday from July 4 through Labor Day, and Saturday and Sunday from Labor Day through Columbus Day.
