Pour Some Sugar On It: Chef Summit Returns With Pancake Cook Off

New Chef Summit breakfast event at Sunday River Resort will redefine the common pancake

Newry, Maine (January 9, 2016)-Did you know that January 28 is National Blueberry Pancake Day? To celebrate, the second annual Chef Summit at Sunday River Resort will bring in celebrity chefs from around the U.S. to the slopes in hopes of redefining the common pancake during a first-ever National Wild Blueberry Pancake Cook Off.

Scheduled from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. in Sunday River's Foggy Goggle restaurant, participating chefs will be a judged in three categories: flavor, innovation, and of course the highest pancake flip. 

Chefs currently signed on to participate in the pancake cook off include Chef Dan Dumont, CMC, from the Maine-based Migis Hotel Group and one of only 67 certified master chefs in the country; Chef Emily Taylor of Boulder, Colorado's Birch Benders Micro-Pancakery; Chef Wendy Benney, regional executive chef for Sodexo USA; Chef David Squillante of Maine's Shipyard Brew Pub and Regatta Room, and recent competitor on Food Network's Cutthroat Kitchen; Chef Jennifer Watchorn from Sunday River's two Resort Hotels; Amy Halloran, pancake specialist and author of "The Bread Basket," and the nationally recognized ProStart High School Culinary Team.

Also part of the annual Chef Summit is a Chef's Tasting event from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in Sunday River's Grand Ave restaurant in the Jordan Hotel.

Participating chefs for the evening event will include Chef Mike Wiley and Chef Andrew Taylor from Portland's Big Tree Hospitality; Chef Kyle Robinson and Chef Yazmin Saraya Jeen from Portland's Five Fifty-Five; Chef Troy Mains from Freeport's Harraseeket Inn; Chef Matt Ginn from Portland's EVO; Chef Doug Papows from the Pigeon Cove at Rockport, Massachusetts's Emerson Inn by the Sea; and Chef Harding Lee Smith and Chef Sean Doherty of The Rooms Restaurants in Portland and Sunday River.
