Newry, Maine (March 28, 2014)-The Sixth Annual Dumont Cup took off at Sunday River Resort on Friday with 83 national, amateur competitors vying for spots in Saturday's competition.

After two qualifying sessions, 21 amateur competitors remain and will move on to the next round, Saturday's semifinals. There they'll compete against the largest roster of professional skiers at The Dumont Cup to date: Olympian Bobby Brown and Torin Yater-Wallace; McRae Williams, Alex Schlopy (also a past Dumont Cup Champion), Matt Walker, Alex Beaulieu-Marchand, Chris Laker, Vinnie Gagnier, PK Hunder, and Kai Mahler.

From tomorrow's semifinals, 12 competitors will advance to the finals to compete against last year's Dumont Cup podium and this year's Olympic slopestyle podium: Joss Christensen (Olympic gold medalist), Gus Kenworthy (Olympic silver medalist and 2012 Dumont Cup Champion), and Nick Goepper (Olympic bronze medalist and the 2013 and 2011 Dumont Cup Champion).

Created by professional freeskier and 10-time X Games Medalist Simon Dumont, The Dumont Cup, which takes place at Dumont's home mountain Sunday River, is the largest (and only major) freeskiing event in the East. It's also the second-to-last AFP platinum-rated slopestyle event before the AFP World Championships at Whistler next month.

The 2014 Dumont Cup winner will receive cash, 925 AFP points, and huge bragging rights.
