The 6th Annual Dumont Cup Hits Sunday River Resort
The largest pro-am freestyle skiing competition in the East returns to Sunday River's slopes March 28-29, 2014February 24, 2014
Newry, ME (February 24, 2014)-The AFP platinum-rated Dumont Cup, which happens to be the only platinum-rated slopestyle event, is the largest pro-am freeskiing competition in the East and it's coming back to Sunday River Resort March 28-29, 2014.
Simon Dumont will again take the lead with designing this year's course on Sunday River's new, world-class terrain park, T72. T72 was jointly conceived by Sunday River, Snow Park Technologies (SPT), and Dumont.
In 2009, Dumont wanted to create an opportunity for young and rising East Coast skiers to gain exposure and approached none other than his home mountain, Sunday River in Newry, Maine. Five Dumont Cups later, stories of amateur skiers like Nick Goepper and Gus Kenworthy, who won the Dumont Cup and stepped onto the pro scene (and recently medaled in Sochi), satisfied Dumont's vision. The Dumont Cup has grown into the largest pro-am competition in the East.
The Dumont Cup qualifiers will be held Friday, March 28 and the finals will take place on Saturday, March 29. If you think you've got what it takes to compete against the pros, register through AFPworldtour.com. There's a $20,000 purse and some highly coveted AFP points up for grabs.
