Early Season Training at Sunday River
At Sunday River, we pride ourselves on snow quality and our ability to offer terrain early and late in the season. Due in large part to our dedication to snowmaking, we open training space for race camps in November each year for academy, college, and independent race teams. In fact, we were recognized by Skiing Magazine's 2016 Resort Guide for having the Most Reliable Snowmaking in the East because "racers flock here for November gates." These teams are also able to stay close to the slopes with all of the necessary amenities, plus additional activities to make camps as productive and enjoyable as possible.

Sunday River's training terrain offers a variety of pitch and length to meet your needs. Training space typically opens in mid-November, with protective fencing on the T2 and Monday Mourning trails set as soon as snow depth allows to create optimal training conditions. Gates are available if needed, but you are more than welcome to bring your own supplies and equipment. Our training space is scheduled in two-hour blocks, which allows each team to have equal and ample time and space on the hill each day.
|Trail||Vertical Drop||Slalom Gate Count||Slalom Lanes||GS Gate Count||GS Lanes|
|Upper Monday Mourning||138m||47||1-3||20||1-2*|
|Lower Monday Mourning||128m||43||1-2||19||1-2|
*A full GS training lane starting from Upper Monday Mourning through Lower Monday Mourning is available, but there is no GS training lane on Upper Monday Mourning alone.
Proven Track Record
Year after year Sunday River opens on or around October 31 for skiing and snowboarding, and our training space is never far behind. Our snowmaking team prioritizes race terrain and training space and our grooming team are experienced in creating optimal training surfaces for a wide range of temperatures.
