Learn to Ski or Snowboard
You want to learn how to ski or snowboard. Here's why you should learn with us:
Sunday River's Perfect Turn Ski and Snowboard School offers one of the most comprehensive programs in the country to introduce first-timers to skiing or snowboarding.
From Perfect Turn's opening date in December through Saturday, January, 31, we will be offering $29 Learn to Ski or Ride packages.*
What kind of teaching facilities does Perfect Turn have at its disposal?
Our Sprint Discovery Center at the South Ridge Lodge is exactly what it sounds like: an entire facility specifically designed for and dedicated to adults (ages 15+) who'd like to discover snow sports in a comfortable setting. The Discovery Center is also the place to go if you haven't skied or snowboarded in a while, as the equipment has changed and become a lot more user friendly over the past decade. You may register, check in, and fill out all necessary paperwork at the Discovery Center. You will also be fitted for your equipment here.
We'll provide your awesome teacher, all of the necessary gear, and a limited-access lift ticket. Here's what you should bring:
-Warm clothing. Prepare to spend most of your day outside:
-Ski or snowboard pants
-An insulated jacket
-A hat or helmet
-A neck gator or scarf
-Waterproof mittens or gloves
-Wool blend socks
-Goggles (or at least sunglasses)
Need to stow your personal belongings?
Any street shoes, backpacks, etc. may be left in cubbies at The Discovery Center.
Alright. You're ready to hit the hill. On your first day, you will learn...
You will learn how to use your equipment first. This includes turning and stopping on your skis or snowboard. You'll also be introduced to the on-snow safety code. South Ridge offers mellow and welcoming terrain for beginners. The Sundance Learning Area is steps from South Ridge Lodge and it's serviced by the Magic Carpet Surface Lift. Depending on how quickly you pick up the basics, you may ride a chair lift on your first day. The South Ridge Express lift adds variety for more confident skiers and riders without any additional intimidation.
You survived. What now?
After your lesson or clinic, you will have the option to return to the Discovery Center or stay slopeside and continue to play in the snow.
When are Learn to Ski or Ride packages available?
On weekends and holidays at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 1 p.m. During the week and on non-holidays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Lessons and clinics are offered throughout the season, as long as the Sundance Learning Area is operational. This is usually between mid-December and mid-April.
