It’s Official: Sunday River to Open for Skiing and Riding November 14

NEWRY, MAINE (November 13, 2024) – Sunday River Resort will kick off its winter season on Thursday, November 14, at 9AM on Locke Mountain, serviced by the Locke Triple out of the Barker Basin.

Equipped with an industry-leading snowmaking system and a dedicated team always eager to fire up snowguns, the resort is ready for the season. Sunday River will open on Thursday for New England Passholders, Ikon Passholders, Mountain Collective, and ticket packs. Daily lift tickets will be accepted for skiing and riding beginning Friday, November 15.

“We have been counting down the days, and the wait is over,” said Brian Heon, General Manager of Sunday River Resort. “Our team is excited to welcome guests and start the season with the spirit of adventure and fun that makes Sunday River so special.”

As part of its opening operations for the 2024-2025 season, Sunday River Resort will begin with terrain on Locke Mountain designated as expert-level for the early season. The Barker Lodge will be open, offering guest services and food and beverage options from the base area. Shuttle service between South Ridge and Barker will also be available throughout the day to ensure easy access to the mountain.

This summer, the resort added 160 high-efficiency HKD snowguns across key trails, bringing the total to over 550 new snowguns introduced in the past three years. These upgrades enhance snow production efficiency, allowing Sunday River to maximize each weather window while minimizing environmental impact and ensuring consistent snow coverage all season long.

On Halloween, the resort showcased its commitment to providing an early start to the season by becoming the first ski resort on the East Coast to offer outdoor chairlift-served skiing and riding.
